Sonia Birocheau

Sonia Birocheau is preparing a PhD in American History with Nancy Green. Her work focuses on the history of education in early-twentieth-century Chicago. She more particularly studies the creation of an "ideal teacher" by education specialists and its reception by teachers. Her research deals with teachers' training at the Chicago Normal School, teachers' careers in the public school system and their participation in the life of their communities.
