Gilles Havard is a historian at the CNRS, and a member of the MASCIPO. His main work is on the history of relations between Europeans and Native Americans in North America from the 16th to the 18th century. His last books are The Great Peace of Montreal of 1701 (Mc Gill Queens University Press, 2001), Empire et métissages. Indiens et Français dans le Pays d’en Haut, 1660-1715 (Septentrion/PUPS, 2003) and, with Cécile Vidal, Histoire de l’Amérique française (Flammarion, 2003; 3rd ed. 2008).
