François Weil is the president of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales.

He has worked on the social history of American industrialization, on migrations through the Atlantic world and North America, on the urban history of the US, and on the historiorgraphy of North Amerca. He is now researching for two new books, on the history of genealogical interest in the US since the 17th century, and on migrations from France to the Americas since the second half of the 18th century.
