| Abstract |
The evolution of educational inequalities is difficult to measure. It is necessary to build an indicator of inequality but also to take into account the social changes which affect the social classes and the value of the diplomas. Whichever the statistical tool used, there is always «quantitative» democra-tization. It is not the same with «qualitative» democratization. We propose to analyze it by building a latent variable called «educational potential». We eliminate «quantitative» democra-tization by giving a relative value to the diplomas. The study of 19 triennial generations between 1920 and 1976 shows that «qualitative» democratization relates mainly to the children of the agricultural categories. This result is similar to that obtained with the log-multiplicative layer effect model. On the whole, can we speak about a «qualitative» democratization? |

| Abstract |
During the years 84-97, a long debate occurred in France about models for the evolution of inequalities related to the percentages of a given educational level. First we try to synthesize the main contributions, then we consider models based on a latent variable called: "educational income". The frequencies at a given level of education are used to estimate the means of this variable for the social categories concerned. This passage from a local property of a distribution to a more central property can be interpreted as a measurement scale. The scales comparing percentages, already suggested in the debate, are often not very compatible with this point of view. It is not the case of the currently most used one: the logistic scale. Under this light, it is not an ideal model however. |

| Abstract |
Some properties of Paul Lévy's concentration functions are exhibited and mainly the problem of their inversion. These functions summarize in a functional way the dispersion in the distribution of random or statistical numerical variables. |

| Abstract |
The concept of inequality (in distributions of wealth, incomes, etc) is one of the most familiar to contemporaneous minds, in their discourses or writtings. Yet, this concept is less easy to grasp than other psycho-linguistic categories such as classification or ordering. Here is proposed an elementary introduction to pertinent mathematical tools for inequalitie's study : it may suggest some paths for genetic psychology research. |

| Abstract |
This article deals with the indexes which allow to compare the inequalities of proportions between two classes. After examining the properties which characterize the definition of inequality indexes between two proportions, it analyzes some other properties like coherence or homogeneity whose incompatibility is proved. It is concerned by different kinds of inequality indexes which are built on measures, distances, statistical measures of dispersion, Atkinson's indexes of Gini's coefficient. It studies the forms and the properties of these indexes and it shows the relationships between them. Finaly it deals with the qualitative comparisons of inequalities based on the Gini's concentrations functions. |
