The majority of researchers, professors, associate and assistant professors working on the area of East Asia Linguistics in France are members of the CRLAO Center.

The Center embraces the diversity of its members' methodological approaches and theoretical backgrounds. It is the only research centre in Europe to be solely dedicated to East Asia Linguistics.

The Center takes a typological, comparative, and historical approach to the study of the four languages in this geographical area, which have or had a link to Chinese writing: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese.
